Our story

Since its inception in 2007 we have worked tirelessly at making La Esquina what it is today. And what exactly is that you ask? It’s a neighborhood cafe surrounded by beautiful gardens and a cozy atmosphere. It is a mellow place where locals and visitors can get to know each other and eat some great food.

La Esquina was the first restaurant built in “the otro lado.” A vision that started out as a simple cafe where people could meet their friends and have a coffee or a smoothie became so much more.  It became a local hangout, a landing spot for visitors, an Internet café, a music and event venue, a meeting space, the home of a regular farmer’s market, and a community landmark.  Over the years, people have come and gone, incredible music and fun events have happened here in our gardens, and so many connections have been made.

In 2020, like many other businesses in town, we were forced to close our doors. When we reopened La Esquina to the public, we knew we wanted to offer the same great food and neighborhood atmosphere, but we had a renewed sense of purpose. Being confronted with the mounting environmental problems, both in the world as well as in our own immediate environment, has pushed us to make some needed changes. We were the first restaurant in town to use biodegradable packaging (12 years ago!), but now are also embracing more recycling options and obtaining an increasing amount of our food from local and organic sources. It has become our number one priority to keep La Esquina a sustainable and conscious small business in this quickly growing community.

No matter what - one thing will never change - we will always strive to be that friendly corner cafe where you find your friends.
